Centurian is our latest re-hab horse, he has this unique name because he looks at least a hundred years old. His teeth show just nubbins in the front, but that could be an old injury, or he very well could be a hundred..but we will take him in on Tuesday and have his teeth worked on so maybe he can process his food better and put on some weight. This is a case of his owner going into a nursing home, not abuse. He was handed over freely so we could help him in his last weeks (hopefully years) on earth, and is on a diet of soaked alfalfa pellets and a mixed feed of processed grain pellets that have been donated by the Grange Co-op in Medford. Thanks to their kindness, both of our big Thoroughbreds are making startling recoveries.
We will add new pictures as they improve.
UPDATE.
Centurion went to the vet today and his poor old teeth got a serious once over by Dr John. He told us he is 25 not a hundred, so there is lots of life in the old boy yet. He did very well and I think his food willl stick to his ribs a lot better now he can process it better. He was identified as a ex show horse, very well bred and cared for in his younger years, such a shame he ended up like this. Updated photos will be taken as soon as this bloody cold weather goes away and I can remove his two blankets.
OK, cold weather is gone and Century is gaining ground like a champ. His energy is soaring and he is very happy with his life.
I recently met the wonderful lady, Gina Janelli, who was responsible for saving his life, she saw he was not being cared for and fed him over the fence all through the winter, she even bought him a waterproof blanket. She is an angel, because without her, he would have died, no doubt. Gina, I salute you!!
He has been adopted by a wonderful lady who will keep him on her ranch, in the style to which we all want to become accustomed, in love and care and good company. Thank you Marie.
This was just under a month later, the day he went to his new home.
