Rescued 6 new horses near La Pine on Friday with the help of a team of people, Karen, Joannie, Susie, Dean, Pat, Debbie, Charlotte  and Chuck. There were 19 horses, but we brought out 6, with maybe more to come. This gelding is a ranch horse throw away, sweet old boy, branded and sporting a knee twice its original size.  This is a classical case of someone getting horses dropped off and she could not afford to care for them, so they were saved by two very caring Klamath Deputies who cared enough to call us. One of them came on his day off, and he and his partner are the hero’s of the day. Our sheriffs dept has some awesome people and we send our thanks for a job well done.

Weanling filly, sweet natured and  in need of a experienced forever human.

Paint filly also in need of her own lifetime friend.

Nice black mare, already adopted…under weight but not too bad and is already looking better.

Mare standing is graded a 1…this is pure neglect and this mare’s chances of recovery are borderline. Gelding spends too much time laying down, he too is borderline.

Gorgeous liver chestnut mare, in good shape, needs a super nice place to start her new life,  was a brood mare for the last three yrs, ready to go back under saddle with an experienced owner.

Poor old mare, vet will be here tomorrow to see what can be done for them all.

Volunteers Joannie and her granddaughter spending time just hanging out with the babies trying to win the trust back. They did finally touch their faces…step number one.

Look at that knee and those dreadful feet.

Volunteer Susie and me with the hose. We washed, scraped and picked months worth of dried manure from this poor mare, finally got her clean. She must feel a lot better now, she is eating well and is responding to her visitors, especially those armed with carrots. (that was a hint)

These horses are feasting on hay donated by two wonderfully caring girlfriends of mine, Kay and Cathy… bless you both, these horses are recovering because of you.

UPDATE.

Vet was here, and the two red horses are very old, have worn out teeth, and one has a knee that will never bend again, so caring for the feet is impossible, and the red mare would no longer eat, she was starved for way too long, and her will to live was gone. They were both quietly euthanized.

The black mare went to a great home already and the very next day, the liver mare found her forever home too.

The two babies are getting daily handling and are sweet as sugar candy. They will need a very experienced home to raise them in the luxury they deserve after such a bad start in life.
